The film "Hubble - 15 years of discoveries" will be shown in the sky theatre of the Observatory

The film "Hubble's Anniversary - 15 years of discoveries" will be shown all over the Europe on April 24th and April 25th. Our observatory will show it on Monday, 25th April in the sky theatre of the Observatory at 19h30m. Everyone's invited. FREE ENTRY.

 

 

The reconstructed base astronomical observatory in Avren was inaugurated by the vice-premier minister Mr Vassilev

On April 10th, the reconstructed astronomical observatory in Avren village was officially inaugurated by Mr Vassilev, vice-premier minister of Bulgaria and ex-member of the astronomical club Canopus, attached to the Varna Observatory Copernicus. In spite of the poor conditions of the observatory before the reconstructions, the students in the Observatory, led by their teachers, carried out many observations, including meteor streams, transits, comets, variable stars, deep sky object, etc. See, for example, the galleries Geminids&Comet December 2004 and Leonids 2004.

31st National Astronomical Conference is over

From April 4 to April 6, 2005 the 31st National Astronomical Conference was hold in Varna. As a tradition, host of the conference is the Astronomical Observatory and Planetarium “Nicolaus Copernicus”. Lovers of astronomy – students, specialists from the astronomical Observatories and Planetariums throughout Bulgaria, teachers, representatives of astronomical clubs and organizations, research workers and lecturers from the Physics Faculty of Sofia University St. Kliment Ohridski, Institute of Astronomy, Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, etc. participated in the conference.

Expedition Geminids&Comet December 2004

A group of students from the Pubic astronomical observatory and planetarium "Nicolaus Copernicus" and members of Astroclub Canopus observed the Geminid meteor shower. Also, the group carried out visual and photographical observations of the comet Maccholz. The group was led by Valentin Velkov and Eva Bojurova. The observations took place at the base astronomical observatory in Avren village. You can see the gallery Geminids&Comet December 2004.

Expedition Leonids 2004

As always, a group of students from the Pubic astronomical observatory and planetarium "Nicolaus Copernicus" and members of Astroclub Canopus observed the Leonid meteor shower. The group was led by Valentin Velkov, and the observations took place at the base astronomical observatory in Avren village. The observers carried out visual and photographical observations. The celebration of the World Space Week is over

On 8 th October ended the World Space Week. During the last week Public astronomical observatory and planetarium “Nicolaus Copernicus” conducted many events, connected with the space. During the whole week lectures on astronautics were given. The Week was opened on Monday, 4.X, with a competition for children's painting on the theme of astronautics. Kites were set in the air and models of rockets were launched from the balcony of the observatory. On Tuesday an astronautics' film was projected and on Wednesday was held a discussion on the theme “ Extraterrestrial Bases: Moon, Mars, Europa”. The course school year was opened in the sky theatre of the observatory on Thursday. Friday – the week was brought to an end with the lecture “From Tsiolkovski to Cassini” – about the history of mastering space.

The new course year started

The new course year was officially started on 7 th October in the sky theatre of the observatory. After the summer holidays, during which the course-takers gathered every Thursday in order to discuss the news in the field of astronomy, the courses are restored. The teaching of astronomy will continue with the same enthusiasm on the side of the teachers as well as on the side of the students, as they all hope to continue achieving good results in the field of astronomy, including astrophysics, the practical observations and educational projects.

The International Meteor Conference is over

On 26th September in Varna the International Meteor Conference was brought to an end. This year the International Meteor Organization entrusted NAOP “Nicolaus Copernicus” the organization of this significant event. For more information go to the site of IMC 2004. The expedition organized by Public astronomical observatory and planetarium "Nicolaus Copernicus" finished

Members of astroclub "Canopus" returned from a meteor expedition in the mountain of Rila. The aim of the expedition was the observation of the meteor stream June Bootids, which this year disappointed the participants, who had expected a spectacular event. According to the beforehand settled itinerary the club continued its excursion and visited a considerable number of the natural landmarks in the mountain of Rila.
